Why Bother To Mail in Rebates?

Jul 15, 2010 by    Posted under: Saving Money

Saving money takes time and patience, it’s true. BUT, it really is worth it and once you get the hang of how to put together deals – including paying attention to rebates – you can save A LOT of money.

This is the first month I’ve started keeping a detailed record of how much I am actually spending, saving, getting in store credit (in the form of ECBs, RRs and Catalinas) and getting back from rebates.

It’s halfway through the month now and my total spending, before coupons, is $168.54. After coupons and using store credit, I’ve paid out of pocket $91.19. I earned $11.98 in ECBs (CVS store credit) and will get $8.29 in rebates making my FINAL spending so far this month….$70.92. That’s a savings of $85.65!!

I came across this article this morning on How To Shop For Free and it’s given me the idea to put my rebates into a separate savings account, as the author does. She had over $1000 in rebates so far this year and it allowed her and her husband to buy a new truck (discounted through his work). Another great example on why it’s worth the time to find the best possible deals and to learn how to use coupons, store credit and rebates to save and make money!
